Countershape Studies
Use the white space inside a letter as diagnostic evidence.
Oval width comparisons
Near-identical ovals are shown with different internal widths. Learners identify which difference comes from the outside contour and which comes from pressure distribution.
Open and closed counters
Forms with an overly tight closing point are compared with more balanced versions. Practice focuses on the final approach into the join.
Repeated bowl families
Learners group letterforms that share similar countershapes and use those similarities to diagnose proportion errors.
Countershape under speed
A controlled form is repeated at slightly different writing speeds. Learners note when the internal space begins to collapse and which movement changes first.
Annotated comparison
Instead of circling a “best” example, the learner marks width, slant, closing point and weight distribution separately.
